How to Deal with Loneliness

Loneliness is a feeling of being alone, isolated and secluded. You don’t have to be isolated from people before you feel lonely; you can have this feeling even with people around you. Studies have shown that one out of three adults is lonely and this is a very common cause of depression which can lead to suicidal thoughts. There are so many relationships that have been ruined due to this silent killer.
Causes of Loneliness
The first step to solving a problem is to know the cause of it. Loneliness has been linked to the following situations:
•Inability to express one’s self to trusted people around: this can lead to feeling isolated because there would be too much for us to hold. When you don’t let others know how you feel, you will feel secluded especially when you are going through a tough time and this can make you more vulnerable to loneliness.
•When you make material possessions your only source of happiness: It is okay to search for possessions but the problem comes when you neglect other aspects of life just to get those things you pursue. There should always be a balance in everything you do.
•Loneliness can occur when you are with people who do not understand you. You can be with someone, even date the person for a long time or spend a lot of time with the person, if there is no understanding loneliness flows in.
•Spending too much time with technological gadgets can also cause loneliness because when we spend too much time with gadgets, we forget that there are people around us. No matter how introverted one is, one still needs time to spend with others because humans are social beings.
How To Maneuver Loneliness
•Talk to a trusted person about what you’re going through.
•Spend time with people who understand you, not just anyone.
•Find a hobby, try to explore and look for exciting things to keep you busy.
•Go on vacation or tour places you have always wanted to visit.
•Join a voluntary organization to meet new people and impart lives.
•Spend time with people who you see in your future and not the past.

Always remember that life is too short for you to be sad and lonely. Do not limit yourself in any way; if you know what you’re doing is right and you truly want it, go for it. Everyone deserves a happy life, so be happy because you control your life.
